In early 2003, I was asked by Alfie Gonzalez (of E:Moderne) to help with a new project. He wanted to go in a very different direction from his previous efforts and reach a totally new audience. The new songs were dark, angry, a far cry from his previous work. His Gary Numan influence was coming out, guns blazing. So what was I to do? Intrigued by the demos I heard, I signed on as producer and keyboardist.
We have completed much of the album, but still have a bit left to go. Vocals mostly. But the process has been very enlightening for me. I think that experiencing the production of an album, not as an artist but as a producer, was a great way to become familiar with the process. I've been able to separate myself from the songwriting and focus more on the production, the sound, the details. The things that are often lost when an artist produces himself. Before I joined this project, I thought I knew what I was doing with my own work. This experience opened my eyes.
And it's also led to a lot of fun. In my time with Desamar, we have taken the stage with a number of friends: Solemn Assembly, Provision, Cosmicity and Outsource, among others. Good times have been had. Mechanical penii have been seen dancing along the top of my XP-30. Drinks and laughs. It's been wonderful. I look forward to my future with Alfie and Desamar, and to the release of this album. I hope you all love it as much as I do.
